5 Things to know about Self-Growth

There are times in our lives when we are faced with setbacks and disappointments that we believe are so tragic and unbearable that we question ourselves and God in an attempt to grasp an understanding.  The main thing that we fail to realize is that we were placed in these circumstances to be in position for something much better than what we have settled for (greatness).  If you are a firm believer you will have the wisdom and discernment to know that the will of God can only unfold when we bring about certain changes in our lives.

The first person around us to recognize these changes are always the people closest to you.  A loved one will be better able to sense the change even before you do because it is not your will but the force of a Higher Power.  It is so great that the only thing you feel is conviction and you might try to fight your way out of it only to realize that the only escape is to yield and be still.  Despite the sudden uproar and uneasiness in your spirit there are a few other things that are eloping as well:

People believe that you have changed because you are no longer the person that they have grown accustomed to.  This is evident in your attitude and behavior in that the things you once enjoyed seem to no longer tickle your fancy.  Your passion now lies into something new and different that may seem boring and not fun to others.  You see, the change is not about others, it’s about you so don’t expect others to understand.

As a result, you may also appear to be selfish which is alright; being self-seeking during this time in your life is expected because you are afraid to lose “self.”  Despite our level of spirituality, our actions are somewhat fueled by our egos. Take for example, the dream of owning a house, nice car and someday living in such comfort and style that is all tailored by the notions and expectations of this world.  The good book speaks of how much we should be dependent on God because everything he created is his and he is readily available to provide all our needs.

Letting go of feelings, expectations, people and all the clutter in our lives is the most challenging because it is not familiar territory.  We are programmed to harbor certain feelings, expectations and hold on to people and clutter because it makes us feel safe; we love our comfort zone.  It is so difficult to let go of our old self and everything and everyone.

Fortunately, for some of us we have volunteers who will walk away without having to put much effort into it but for others the decision will be heart wrenching and heartbreaking at first. Just bear in mind that everything will always work together for good; you just haven't grasp an understanding yet.

Accepting the change is an ongoing, conscious effort because it is much easier to hold onto the ‘old’ as oppose to letting it all go and embrace the ‘new.’  There are a few factors involved in the process of acceptance such as recognizing the temporal nature of every experience, having a vision to see things for exactly what they are, and having no emotional attachment to your immediate circumstances.

When you are emotionally detached from whatever it is that is going on with you or in your life; your sense of sight into the situation heightens and intensifies just so you can see what is really going on.  Hence, you are able to make better choices and can find comfort in knowing that no matter what happens, everything is and will be just fine.

***An overlook:the final step in the process is to step right into position.  I have intentionally left this portion out because accepting change and walking into your divine position is an ongoing process but more so the latter.  Are you up for the challenge?***
